WHY DIDN’T THEY USE THIS?
- X-Men
- Avengers (that includes any of the individual characters movies)
- Batman
- Star Trek
- Star Wars
- And pretty much anything that’s action or targeted to guys
A guy friend of mine today said it was weird that my friend had all the X-Men movies because she was a girl. Needless to say we almost threw him out of the car. So I would like to prove to him that just because we have vagina’s that doesn’t impair us from enjoying an action film.
Women of tumblr please back me up.
My comic for class. Not quite how I wanted it, but it will do. All of the comments used are either things I have heard or seen. The woman is based off myself, the man a combination of male cosplayers I know. Yes people calling someone too skinny is an insult, and yes I did watch a security guard tell a bigger man to put a shirt on at a con while more fit men walked around shirtless.
For my paper I wrote about the sexualization of men in comics as well as women. I wanted to define the differences between sexualization and sexism, and make the point that men are portrayed in a completely nonsensical way as well as women. During my research I found a lot of articles that stated that men are not sexualized at all and this is utter crap.
At the end of the day a comic is an outrageous story made of fictional characters, creating a fantasy for the readers. Creating a ‘perfect’ character for people to enjoy. Both men and women have the highest of standards, and when a character is average or ugly, it is almost always spoken in a negative term. I know not ever comic is this way, B.P.R.D. sexualizes no one, but the mainstream comics that most people know are very guilty of this. On a 2D illustration a low cut shirt shows just as much as a skin tight spandex suit on a guy, just in a different color. Yes I do believe the actions and portrayals of women by writers shows sexism, but the art? It’s a comic, everyone is sexy.
That’s my opinion and I’m sticking to it. Thanks for reading. u_u
